Re: Antonio in the England squad
Yeah I'd say Rooney playing midfield was a major factor 2 managers recently lost their jobs for playing very boring, slow paced, lacking in goals, football.

Trust the sites resident contrarian to support a winter break, something which at least 90% of match attending supporters would be against.
As said, how would packing in more games adjacent to summer tournaments help anyone. Besides, clubs would just organise friendlies the other side of the world.

Re: Antonio in the England squad
The whole team were shit at the euros. Doesn't mean they've been found out. They're playing against a higher standard every week in the premier league. And they are some of the standout players. Sometimes it just doesn't click, but it doesn't mean they've been "found out"

indeed, the idea of playing more games near international tournaments - whilst fucking over the xmas period that supporters in this country love - is almost certain to improve our fortunes.

If Sam does nothing else but force through the winter break, it'll be a major contribution to England's chances.

Re: Antonio in the England squad
Slovakia defended well. The crosses were flying in but there was never anyone with any real heading ability on the end of them. Antonio would of been one to bring on in that game. Carroll also.

Re: Antonio in the England squad
We dominated play. Someone needs to come up with a method to break down very well drilled defending teams. There must be some clever way to do this.

did you miss the euros?

Re: Antonio in the England squad
Kane been poor since the EUROS...

Did Hodgson telling him he was a dead ball specialist made him lose his goal scoring skills...

...or was he counting the Quids in his new 120k a week contract...???

Re: Antonio in the England squad
"Kane is being found out at international level"

What a ridiculous thing to say, he's been one of the best strikers in the league for the last couple of seasons but somehow the international supremos of Martin skrtel and some other part time plumber, shutting him out means he's been found out.

Aha, the eagerly anticipated letter from America has arrived. In it a well known necrophiliac demonstrates his English football knowledge.

PS...

This game didn't even merit it's own thread...

How England Football has fallen...

...and don't expect much excitement or quality from BFS...

Texas Iron 1:09 Mon Sep 5
Re: Antonio in the England squad
Dominated against a poor side obviously playing for a draw.

Lacking a quality striker ,,,and creativity in midfield...

Reminded me of West Ham with CFC up front and Rooney in the "Nolan Role"...

BFS is slow and thick...Skrtel and Lallana's late goal saved him...

Rooney is stealing England cps...adds nothing as a captain...and absolutely nothing in midfield...or wherever he was playing...

Alli...Drinkwater...Noble....any mobile...energetic mf would have been better...

Subs were too late ...typical BFS...he will never learn...

Re: Antonio in the England squad
If Rooney actually had any on field leadership skills then it might be worth having him on the pitch.
He doesn't (perfectly domonstrated in the Euros) so he should not be there

Grumpster 1:08 Mon Sep 5
Re: Antonio in the England squad
I'd have Rooney ahead of Kane every day of the week personally, though not in his current position obviously.

Kane's getting found out a little at international level and Vardy definitely deserves a run in the team which Kane has had.

dealcanvey 1:05 Mon Sep 5
Re: Antonio in the England squad
So it is Wayne Rooney's fault that Hodgson and Van Gaal lost their jobs.

Incredible.

Rossal 1:05 Mon Sep 5
Re: Antonio in the England squad
He shouldnt be in the side

Kane and Vardy are better forwards

Alli is a better no 10

Dier and Drinkwater are better central midfielders at the moment

He is in there because he is captain and his leadership skills. But you need more then that in the international game nowadays

Alex V 1:04 Mon Sep 5
Re: Antonio in the England squad
I thought Sam would get caught out with his bullshit spin under more scrutiny, but I didn't think it would be this quick. The idea that in an Allardyce side a player wouldn't be told where to play is utter nonsense - he's just trying to deflect criticism away from himself.

Grumpster 1:03 Mon Sep 5
Re: Antonio in the England squad
He should play up front as he's a striker, not hard really, yet loads of managers fail to see this.
